The Shins is known as an American indie rock band having group of singer, guitarist and songwriter, James Russell Mercer, keyboardist or guitarist or bassist, Martin Crandall, drummer Jesse Sandoval, bassist or guitarist Dave Hernandez, and Eric Johnson of the Fruit Bats. Their sound draws on numerous musical genres, comprising pop, alternative rock, alternative country, folk, alternative rock. The Shins was originated from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but now it is based in Portland, Oregon.
The Shins started to perform in 1997 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working on a side project of Mercer formerly of Blue Roof Dinner and Neal Langford, both affiliates of the lo-fi musical grouping Flake established in 1992. By 1999, Flake, it is now known as Flake Music was split and its earlier members became The Shins. The band launched two 7" singles, "When I Goosestep" (2000) and "Nature Bears A Vacuum" (1998), went on board on a trip with Modest Mouse.
During the excursion, they were encountered with a Sub Pop representative in San Francisco who ultimately presented to launch their debut album. The Shins' first debut album was 2001's Oh, Inverted World, launched to significant applause for its lyrically dexterous and jangly pop sound.
