Testament is an American spank metal band from Oakland, California, founded in 1983. Testament has two peaked 40 albums and one exclusive 50 album to its glory in the UK. Their 2008 album peaked Top 20 in Germany at #15. The 1999 album “The Gathering” also crossed the threshold among Top 50 in Germany. They had slight top 100 album achievement in the United States. Testament was founded in the San Francisco area in 1983 by Eric Peterson, guitarist and his cousin, Derrick Ramirez, a guitarist, initially using the first name Legacy.
The band soon hired Greg Christian as bassist, Mike Ronchette as drummer and Steve Souza as vocalist. Ramirez was afterward changed with guitarist Alex Skolnick who was student of SF Bay Area guitarist Joe Satriani. The band launched one self-titled 4 song presentation in 1986. Ronchette left abruptly after the video recording and was replaced by Louie Clemente.
Steve Souza afterward left the band to unite Exodus, and recommended that Chuck Billy should substitute him on lead vocals. While video recording their opening album, the band was strained to modify their name to Testament which, according to Maria Ferrero in the May 2007 matter of Revolver, was recommended by Billy Milano of S.O.D.
