Steve Miller Band is an American-based rock band founded in 1967 in San Francisco, California. The band is directed by Steve Miller on guitar and lead vocals. Steve Miller and Chris Yoder, keyboardist laid foundation of the Goldberg-Miller Blues Band along with rhythm guitarist Craymore Stevens, bassist Roy Ruby, and drummer Lance Haas after moving to Chicago to perform the blues.
The band had a deal with Epic Records after performing in several Chicago clubs, releasing their just 45 rpm solo on Epic Records, "The Mother Song." They launched on Hullabaloo with the Four Tops and the Supremes, performing in the concerts at a Manhattan club. Steve Miller moved to the growing San Francisco landscape and founded the Steve Miller Blues Band. When they had a deal with Capitol Records in 1967, they abbreviated their name to the Steve Miller Band.
The group of four of guitarists Miller, bassist Lonnie Turner, James Cook, and drummer Tim Davis backed Chuck Berry at a concert at the Fillmore West which was on air as a live album. Guitarist Boz Scaggs attached the band soon after and the musical group performed at the Monterey Pop fiesta in June.
