An American multitalented best known actress, singer and songwriter is none other than Idina Kim Menzel. Idina is generally familiar for originating the roles of Maureen in Rent and Elphaba in Wicked. In the year of 1995 she auditioned for Rent which became her first professional theater job and Broadway debut. In 1996, Rent opened off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop and moved to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre. Idina gained popularity throughout her music career and for her performance as Maureen Johnson in the original cast of the musical, she got a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Menzel’s final musical performance was on July 1, 1997.
From May 12-13, 2008 she has played the role of Florence in the 21st Anniversary concert of Chess at the Royal Albert Hall, London alongside Kerry Ellis, Adam Pascal and Josh Groban. From July 11 -13, 2008 she headlined the Powerhouse Theatre's reading of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's musical Nero performing the role of Nero’s mistress Poppea. Menzel has performed various live shows, on May 17, 2009 she performed at a special benefit concert in Atlanta Georgia to raise money for the Pace Academy Diversity Program in coordination with the Ron Clark Academy. The event resulted in the funding of two scholarships for Ron Clark Academy students to attend Pace Academy. Hopefully Menzel will have many more hits and the opportunity to make people feel happy listening to her music.
