Charles Edward "Charlie" Daniels is an American musician known for his contributions to country and southern rock music. He is known primarily for his number one country hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", and multiple other songs he has performed and written. Daniels has been active as a singer since the early 1950s. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on January 24, 2008. Daniels and his band experienced the height of their popularity at the end of the '70s and early '80s, but they remained a popular concert attraction well into the '90s. His nemesis is now age, but Charlie Daniels doesn't seem ready to hang up the fiddle. The 73-year-old musician is famous for taking on Mr. Scratch in the 1979 hit, The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
HIGHMOUNT America and the Charlie Daniels Band, John Scofield and Joe Lovano the 2010 Belleayre Music Festival has plenty of variety in its schedule, which was announced Thursday. The schedule begins July 3 with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, followed by a fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day. It ends Sept. 4 with a nod to New Orleans, led by the Aaron Neville Quintet featuring Charles Neville. Opry member Charlie Daniels will perform at the Opry this weekend along with fellow members Joe Diffie, Loretta Lynn, Marty Stuart, Pam Tillis and others. Despite suffering a recent stroke, the legendary Charlie Daniels plans to return to the road later this month and spend most of the year touring with his accompanying band.
The road trip begins with two Florida shows: Feb. 27 in Fort Pierce and Feb. 28 in Brooksville. The 11-month itinerary, though sporadic, crisscrosses the nation, visiting 50 cities through year's end. A round of performances as part of the Sean Hannity Freedom Concert is also on the books for August.
