The rocking old time string band is only The Carolina Chocolate Drops. The band is from Durham, North Carolina, United States and has been formed in November 2005. The band is following the members' attendance at the Black Banjo Gathering in Boone, North Carolina. The band Carolina Chocolate drops is one of the few remaining African American string bands. The group’s line up includes Rhiannon Giddens, Dom Flemons, and Justin Robinson; they were all in their twenties when the band has been formed. The groups musicians sing, and trade instruments including banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica, snare drum, bones, jug, and kazoo. In 2001, 2006 and 2008 the band released at least three CDs and has opened for Taj Mahal. The group has also performed on Mountain Stage and at the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention.
