Cardinals wants boost in defense signed Porter to a 3-year deal

National Football League veteran linebacker Joey Porter is the new defensive gem of the Arizona Cardinals in the next season of the premier professional football league in the planet.

The defense of the Arizona Cardinals in the next National Football League season get a much needed boost after the team successfully signed the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter to a three-year contract Friday.
A proven defensive arsenal in his 12 NFL seasons, Porter is expected to help the Cardinals defense against the tough opposition from other teams in the premier professional football league in the planet.
Porter is also eyed to provide leadership and veteran knowledge to the team in the incoming NFL season.
He spent the past three with the Miami Dolphins, who released him in March.
He played the first eight years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With 92 career sacks, Porter trails only Jason Taylor (127 1/2 ) among active players.
Porter has 12 career interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 23 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries with two returned for TDs.
Porter will join a team with a coaching staff that includes several members of the Steelers’ staff when he was with Pittsburgh.
They include Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was the Steelers’ offensive coordinator.
Before signing for the Cardinals, the Washington Redskins have actively pursued him but he eventually decided to accept the offer of the Cardinals due to his ties with some of its coaches and personnel.
The NFL star said felt happy with his new deal and vowed to play harder to bring in the bacon of a Superbowl trophy for the Cardinals.
Porter also downplayed observations that his career is now on its downtrend with his lackluster performance as a member of the Dolphins the past three years.
The linebacker said despite his age, he can still compete big-time with his younger opponents and help the Cardinals gain success in the NFL.
Whisehunt is himself happy with the decision of Porter to sign with the team since he is a defensive gem in the NFL.
The Cardinals are very serious in its bid to have success in the NFL as they earlier signed one of the top quarterbacks in the top professional football league on the planet.
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has accepted the two-year contract offered by the Cardinals for his services in the next season of the NFL.
The Browns earlier decided to cut Anderson from its roster since the team wanted to move to a new direction without their former top player.
Before being cut by his team, Anderson spent five up-and-down seasons with the Browns, where he lost his starting job to Brady Quinn at the start of last season.
He got the job back, lost it, then got it back again when Quinn got hurt.
The 6-foot-6 former Oregon State quarterback had been claimed off waivers by Cleveland from Baltimore in 2005.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2007 when he threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns, leading the Browns to a 10-6 record.
With his new team, Anderson hopes to have a fresh start and win a Superbowl trophy with the Cardinals.
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson is now a member of the Arizona Cardinals in the next two years starting this year.
With his new team, Anderson hopes to have a fresh start and win a Superbowl trophy with the Cardinals.
As a the newest member of the Cardinals, Anderson will play a vital part with the team as a backup to quarterback to Matt Leinart with a chance to push for the
starting job.
Leinart got the starting job for the Cardinals in the incoming NFL season after the superstar quarterback of the team Kurt Warner has announced his retirement from the game.
This early Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt expressed joy and excitement with the signing of Anderson.
Whisenhunt said despite a bad NFL season with his former team he is confident Anderson can bounce back and help the team achieve success in the next NFL season.
Despite starting as a back-up for the Cardinals, Anderson is ready to accept such role saying he is used to competing for the job as starter for any NFL team.
He said the move to start as a back-up is in itself great since it will allow him the chance to challenge and motivate Leinart to work harder if he wish to keep his job as top quarterback for the Cadinals.
Leinart for his part is happy with the addition of Anderson to their team since it makes the Cardinals stronger for the forthcoming NFL wars.
He said competing with Anderson for the starting job position is okay with him since that is part of the life of being an NFL player.
Looks like the Cardinals are in for a successful NFL season with the addition of Anderson to its rosters.
It is time to rock and roll for the countless fans of the Cardinals worldwide.
No World Cup of Soccer participation for Beckham

British professional soccer star David Beckham will missed the chance to become the first soccer player from the United Kingdom to compete in four World Cup of Soccer due to the recent injury he suffered while playing the sport that made him a global hit among sports fans in this planet.

One of the names in professional soccer will miss the games in the biggest event in professional soccer in 2010 the Soccer World Cup in June.
David Beckham has confirmed that he cannot compete for England in the World Cup after tearing his left Achilles tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan.
Beckham tore his left Achilles tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan in Serie A match vs. Chievo Verona.
The absence of Beckham for England in the World Cup is a big loss since he had been a regular fixture for the team the past three World Cup editions.
If not by injury, Beckham could have become the first English player to participate in four World Cups.
While not anymore the player he used to be during his younger years, Beckham could have make the World Cup roster as a reserve and looked forward to the high-profile June 12 match-up against the United States and Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan.
Despite losing some of his skills and athleticism, Beckham was still useful for his free kicks and crosses, especially when England needed second-half goals.
Beckham is a certified global sports icon resembling the likes of golfing superstar Tiger Woods and NBA basketball superstar Kobe Bryant.
Aside from professional soccer, Beckham is also known as a fashion icon with a celebrity wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
A 2002 movie was even named after him, "Bend it Like Beckham."
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was on his second loan stint to AC Milan from Los Angeles Galaxy as he looked to boost his chances of making England coach Fabio Capello's 23-man World Cup roster.
With no chance to play in the World Cup, his international career is likely over after 17 goals and 115 appearances, second in English history behind only goalkeeper Peter Shilton's 125 matches from 1970-90.
Beckham was England's captain from November 2000 through the 2006 World Cup.
He was due back with the Galaxy after the World Cup.
Despite the absence of one of the top professional soccer players in the world today, the World Cup still promises to be an exciting tournament for professional soccer fanatics all over the globe.
Jake Delhomme, the former top quarterback of the Carolina Panthers has agreed in principle to a two-year deal with the Browns his new team in the next NFL season.
Coming off his worst season as an NFL star, Delhomme hopes to revive his competitive spirit and add spark and spunk to the Browns.
Throwing 18 interceptions the past NFL season, the Panthers management earlier decided to dump Delhomme still owing him more than $12 million.
Before being dropped by his former team, the 35-year-old quarterback went 58-40 as a starter with Carolina, leading the franchise to its lone Super Bowl appearance to end the 2003 season.

Delhomme

For the past two NFL seasons, the veteran quarterback struggled big that drove the Browns to cut him from its roster.
Looking for a new home after his sad fortune, the star quarterback eventually decided to sign with the Browns whose quarterback position has been nothing short of a merry-go-round of players since the club returned as an expansion team 11 years ago.
Since 1999, the Browns have had eight different opening-week quarterbacks.
The Browns management has expressed joy to have Delhomme on its fold come opening night and the rest of the next NFL season.
The management hope that he can bring success to the team with his veteran leadership and skills.
The newest member of the Browns roster is expected to compete for team's starting job with Brady Quinn, who has yet to receive any endorsement from the club’s new front office.
Earlier this week, the Browns acquired backup Seneca Wallace and released Derek Anderson, a one-time Pro Bowl selection who has struggled in the past two seasons.
Is Delhomme the missing link for the Brown's quest for a Superbowl trophy? Professional football fans all over the globe can find out themselves by making it a habit to watch the NFL games live.
Pacquiao further cement status as top boxer of planet with victory over Clottey

There is no doubt, Filipino boxing superstar Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao (right) is the top boxer of the planet after a dominating win against defence minded Ghanaian boxing star Joshua Clottey in their fight at the famous Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas Saturday evening.

One of the most highly anticipated boxing matches this year proved to be less stellar and exciting as the opponent of Filipino boxing superstar Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao went to the ring not to win but merely to survive.
Pacquiao, the best pound for pound boxer in the world today easily demolished Ghanaian boxing star Joshua Clottey in their 12-round bout at the world class Dallas Cowboys stadium on Saturday evening.
Using his vaunted speed and punching power, Pacquiao won via a unanimous decision against Clottey who was unimpressive with his performance in the fight as he played defence all throughout the bout.
Instead of using his size and power advantage, Clottey just stood his ground and offer stonewall defence to protect himself from the barrage of punches thrown by the top boxer of the planet today.
Clottey who refused to engage the World Boxing Organisation welterweight division champion to a slugfest only punched a little during the whole duration of the fight to the dismay of the professional boxing fans all over the globe.
Known the professional boxing world as the "Grandmaster" Clottey did not live to his lofty billing as he allowed Pacquiao to feast on him with punches that lead to his loss and lopsided victory for Pacman.
Pacman who was brilliant all night long, took advantage of his speed and power as he hit the African boxing star with a volume of punches all throughout the bout.
Visibly irked by the non-combative mood of Clottey, Pacman even fired a two fisted attack on his opponent during the fourth round that caught the referee and boxing aficionados by surprise.
Pacquiao was very happy with his impressive win and expressed willingness to fight American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former top boxer of the planet.
The Filipino boxing superstar also hopes to fight former American boxing champion Sugar Shane Mosley if ever the latter wins against Mayweather in their titanic battle on May 1.
Now that the Pacman-Clottey if officially over, the attention of boxing fans and experts now shift to the Mayweather-Mosley fight on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Whoever wins the fight between the two American boxing superstars gets the possibility of facing Pacman late this year.
NCCA Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun will continue to be part of Connecticut after agreeing to sign a four-year contract extension with the team anytime soon.

Despite concerns on his health, 67-year-old Connecticut basketball team head-coach Jim Calhoun will stay with the team when his current contract ends on June 30.
Calhoun had agreed to stay with the team in the next four years after finding the proposal made by the school management fair and equivocal to his status as a two-time national championship and Hall of Fame coach.
In a press-statement, Calhoun doused off speculations that he will retire from the game and transfer to another NCAA school saying he will stay as coach of Connecticut for many years to come.
Earlier, it was reported that Calhoun will be longer be part of Connecticut after his seven-game absence this season for an undisclosed medical condition.
But Calhoun returned to the bench as fiery and passionate as he has been at UConn.
Calhoun has had multiple health issues, battling cancer three times. Last June, he dealt with broken ribs after falling during his charity bike ride.
Despite losing its recent NCAA basketball game to St. John's in the first round of the Big East tournament in New York. The Huskies, is still considered as one of the top college basketball team in America today.
UConn athletic director Jeffrey Hathaway expressed joy over the decision of Calhoun to stay with the team saying he is a vital piece of the team for years to come in NCAA basketball.
In the current NCAA basketball season, the Huskies lose seniors Jerome Dyson, Stanley Robinson and Gavin Edwards.
with the loss of some of its top players, the Huskies is on a rebuilding stage to prepare for a bright future for the team.
Calhoun who is happy with his incoming new contract vowed to do his best to continue the success of the Huskies in NCAA basketball.
The current NCAA season is getting more intense and exciting for college basketball fans to watch it live.
Mason stays as member of Ravens after new 2-year deal

The aim of the Baltimore Ravens to have a successful year in the next season of the National Football League got a much needed boost.
This developed after Ravens top wide receiver Derrick Mason agreed on a two-year contract extension worth $8 million that includes $3.5 million in the first year.
The deal is great news for the Ravens since Mason, a two-time Pro Bowl player is a vital cog for the Ravens the past NFL season.
The 36-year-old Mason had 73 receptions for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009.
He started all 16 games and became the 23rd player in NFL history with 800 career catches.
The resigning of Mason elated Ravens coach John Harbaugh since the wide receiver is a veteran player who can do wonders for the team.

Mason

Ravens top quarterback Joe Flanco also expressed joy over the decision of Mason to remain with the team for two more years before finally retiring from NFL.
In two years playing alongside Flanco, the two was able to produce big for the Ravens the past NFL seasons.
Mason is himself happy with the new deal he just signed and vowed to play even harder to contribute big for the Ravens.
The NFL star revealed he is now fully motivated to give his best to bring home the Superbowl trophy to the Ravens.
Mason played eight years with the Tennessee Titans before going to Baltimore as a free agent.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2000 and 2003, and has 863 career receptions for 11,089 yards and 59 touchdowns.
Now that Mason is part of the Ravens roster for the next two years, the fortune of the team looks bright in the incoming NFL season.
End of the line for Dunleavy in Clippers franchise

Mike Dunleavy is no longer part of the Clippers organization after the team terminated his services as general manager of the team.

AFTER seven average seasons, Los Angeles Clippers general manager and former head-coach Mike Dunleavy is no longer part of the franchise in the National Basketball Association.
Clippers owner Donald Sterling has recently decided to terminate the services of Dunleavy saying the team wants to move in a new direction and start winning games and have a successful NBA season.
With his departure from the team, assistant general manager Neil Olshey will takeover his post and chart the future of the team in the current season of the NBA and for years to come.
Although surprised with the report, Dunleavy accepted the decision of the Clippers and thank the organization for the opportunity they gave him as coach and general manager.
Dunleavy who is visibly sad and surprised with the decision of the Clippers management said he is ready to move on and look for other opportunities outside the team.
Clippers superstar and veteran point-guard Baron Davis is himself surprised and sad over with the Clippers decision to sacked Dunleavy.
Davis said he really thought that Dunleavy will stay as a general manager for a long time but was wrong.
He said the management made the tough decision to move to a different direction and he respected it.
The NBA superstar said he will just continue to play and help the team achieve success in the current season of the NBA and for years to come.
Clippers interim coach Kim Hughes is himself sad over the latest turn of events for the Los Angels Lakers saying Dunleavy is a big loss for the NBA organization.
Hughes promised to work even harder to make the Clippers successful in the NBA.
In 6½ seasons as coach, Dunleavy was 215-325, and Los Angeles made the playoffs just once in his first six seasons, getting within one game of the Western Conference finals in 2006.
The Clippers haven't been back to the playoffs since, winning just 42 games in the past two seasons.
Dunleavy also played an important role in several transactions, including deals that brought Marcus Camby, Rasual Butler, Steve Blake,Travis Outlaw and Drew Gooden to the Clippers.
He was also was part of the planning for the team's last four NBA drafts, including obtaining Blake Griffin as the No. 1 overall pick last season.
Griffin has missed this season because of injury.
Now that Dunleavy is out of the Clippers franchise, fans and team officials hope that success will come to the franchise in the current NBA season and for years to come.
Jets traded Rhodes to Cardinals for two draft picks

In an effort to strengthen its roster for years to come the New York Jets has given up one of its top players in exchange for two draft choices from the Arizone Cardinals.
The Jets has decided to give safety Kerry Rhodes to the Cardinals in exchange for a fourth-round pick in this year's draft and a seventh-rounder in 2011.
The Jets made the tough decision to trade Rhodes after the latter has a bad NFL season wherein he often feuded with his coaches over his limited role for the team.
Before the trading Rhodes, has four years left on his contract and was due a $2 million roster bonus next week.
Expected to be one of the standouts on coach Rex Ryan's defense last year, Rhodes struggled and even lost his starting job.

Rhodes

The move of the Jets to ship Rhodes is music to the ears of the Cardinals who are in dire need of someone who can provide immediate impact after trading Boldin and losing top free agents in Rolle and linebacker Karlos Dansby, who agreed to terms with Miami.
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt who is visibly happy with the trade since he believe Rhodes will fit well with their system and could have a great partnership with All-Pro like Adrian Wilson.
Whisehunt said Rhodes will be a vital part of the campaign of the Cardinals in the next NFL season.
Rhodes, a fourth-round pick out of Louisville in 2005, expressed over the trade saying it offers him new chances to improve further and have a fresh start in a new team.
He said now that he is already part of the Cardinals roster he will strive harder to help the team achieve a great year in the next season of the NFL.
In his NFL career, Rhodes has accumulated 15 career interceptions.
With many trades and happenings going around the NFL, the next season of the premier professional football league of the planet promises to be a great one for sports fans worldwide.
Helton still a member of Rockies with new 2-year deal

Colorado Rockies has solidify its roster in the next season of Major League Baseball by successfully signing first baseman Todd Helton to a new two-year deal worth $9.9 million.
The latest MLB off-season transaction is great news to the management and Rockies fans all over the globe.
Helton is currently earning $16.6 million this year, and he agreed to defer $13 million of his $19.1 million salary in 2011 over a 10-year period beginning in 2014.
The first baseman is extremely happy with his new deal since it just showed how much the team appreciate his performance at 38 years old.
The MLB star said although he is happy with the deal he is also pressured and challenged to exert more effort to ensure the success of the team in the next MLB season.
Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd is also himself happy with the decision of Helton to accept the contract extension and retire as a member of the Rockies.
Dowd said the team had pursued their first baseman during the off-season since they believe he can contribute big for the team in the next two years.

Helton

Colorado selected Helton in the first round of the 1995 amateur draft. He played left field in his major league debut with the Rockies on Aug. 2, 1997, and has spent his entire career with them.
He is one of five players in history with a .325 career batting average, .400 on-base percentage and a .565 slugging percentage, joining Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams and Albert Pujols.
The move to sign Helton also allow the team to save money and use it to sign other big named players to help the cause of the Rockies in the next MLB season.
With his new deal, Helton agreed to defer $13 million of his $19.1 million salary in 2011 over a 10-year period beginning in 2014.
Colorado had a $23 million option for 2012 with a $4.6 million buyout as part of the $141.5 million, nine-year contract that began with the 2003 season.
Instead, he will make $10.7 million in salary and signing bonus next year, not including the deferred money, and then will receive $4.9 million in 2012 and $5 million in 2013.
Is the move of the Rockies to extend the services of Helton to two more years is a right direction for the team?
You can find out personally by making it a habit to watch the incoming MLB games live.

Ilgauskas seeks new tour of duty with Cavaliers

After being dumped and traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier, National Basketball Association (NBA) veteran center Zydrunas Ilgauskas is ready to forgive his former ball club and be part of the team again.
Yes, you heard it right, the soft spoken but highly effective pivot-man has recently told his agent Herb Rudoy to negotiate his return to the Cavaliers.
Ilgauskas decided to return back to his former team to show his gratitude for the many years he played with them and to help them in its quest for its first ever championship.
The NBA star center revealed despite what happened his heart really belonged to the Cavaliers and believe that his quest for his first NBA crown has better chances of getting realize if he returns to his former team.

Ilgauskas

Ferry and the franchise made the move to bolster the team's chances for the incoming NBA playoffs especially with the absence of its superstar center Shaquille O'Neal who is down for the rest of the NBA season due to a thumb injury.
However, after the trade, Ilgauskas made a bold decision not to play for the Wizars and just opted for a buy-out of his contract with the team.
Hearing that Ilgauskas has decided not to play for the Wizards, the Cavaliers management made an effort to get back the services of its former starting center realizing that he can be of great value in the NBA playoffs.
After pondering things out, the veteran center finally decided to return to the team that drafted him in 1996.
With Ilgauskas in its fold the Cavaliers is one of the team to beat this NBA season especially during the playoffs.
