NBA, Player's union to talk to avert possible lockout
Hoops fans are hoping that the NBA management and player's union will have a settlement deal to avoid possibilities of lockout in the premier basketball league on the planet.
To avoid possibilities of a lockout or work suspension National Basketball Association (NBA) commissioner David Stern is se to meet with NBA Players Association chief Billy Hunter to broker a new labor agreement as the current agreement expires on June 2011.
Stern and Hunter will meet by May or June to talk about the new deal to avert possibilities of work stoppage, which could greatly affect the league.
Among the possible things Stern and Hunter will talk about is the request of team owners for the shortening the lengths of guaranteed contracts; reducing year-to-year raises; slicing into the amount of guaranteed revenue players receive; and lowering maximum and minimum salaries to cope up with the current economic slowdown.
Team owner wanted some changes in the contract since they believe it is badly needed due to the financial crisis affecting the world.
The team owners also even threaten to temporarily halt operation if ever there request are not given due course.
Stern for his part said he would do his best to have a fruitful discussion with the representatives of the NBA players.
The head of the NBA management also expressed confidence that the fears of possible lock-up because of the situation will not come true since the league is strong to withstand any possible problem that will come their way.
